Land Surveying
We are MacKay & Sposito Surveying - we bring real expertise.
We are not ordinary, urban, 8-5 pm surveyors, who are rarely far from a Starbucks and an air-conditioned truck, whom you see working outside the neighborhood strip mall. We embody the spirit of the surveyors of 200 years ago; those who were the explorers, mappers, and visionaries who opened a new land to settlement and who were dedicated professionals who took their work, tools, responsibility to the public, and ethics seriously. We don't take projects because they are easy money, we take and do projects that will push us professionally, serve our clients and the greater good, and continue to separate us from the chaff that is the run-of-the-mill surveyor.
A sample of our signature projects are as follows.

Transmission & Distribution
M&S, has performed route surveying for electrical transmission and distribution systems for Clark Public Utilities since 1995, and Bonneville Power Administration since 2009. In the time since, we have provided topographic and right of way surveys for over 50 miles of Clark Public Utility power lines, existing and planned, along roads and cross country, and Encroachment, Impairment, and substation surveys for BPA transmission lines and sites all over Oregon and Washington. Our experience ranges from surveying new alignments, through surveying existing alignments for pole/tower replacement or relocations, to foreign crossing surveys. In addition to the mapping work we have provided, we have also staked many miles of transmission / distribution lines for CPU, as well as preparation of easements and right of way descriptions. We have also performed identical work for Power Engineers of Meridian, ID, for projects they have designed which needed land surveying.

Cadastral
MacKay & Sposito is on the US Forest Service Cadastral Survey on-call list, which was renewed this year, as well as the Washington Department of Natural Resources on-call list for Cadastral Boundary surveying in Southwest Washington. The most recent project we performed for the Forest Service, completed in May 2008, was of 3 sections in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area and involved retracement of a township line not retraced since 1874. We just completed negotiations for our next project, which will be 2 sections in the same township.
We have 3 surveyors on staff that previously worked for the Bureau of Land Management performing land surveying. Cadastral surveying is an extremely strong area for us. Many surveyors have urban public lands survey experience, where a remonumented section corner from 1970 is considered old, but not many have experience with original retracement. We do. Not only do we have two surveyors enrolled in the CFedS (Certified Federal Surveyor) program, we have a person that was instrumental in constructing the basis for the program, the BLM Advanced Cadastral course. Currently, there are only 225 CFedS nationally. This certification ensures a surveyor is extremely familiar with surveying within the public land survey system, and is the only way to judge a surveyors competence in this area.
First Order Leveling
Department of Natural Resources
MacKay & Sposito, Inc. is one of only 2 firms in the Pacific Northwest that is deemed competent at performing First Order Differential Leveling by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the only one that did so with expertise on-staff, not hiring expertise from an east coast consultant to qualify.
