WE’VE GOT HISTORY

Get to know us a little better

MacKay Sposito has had quite a journey since our inception in 1974. We've grown from a small, local civil engineering and land surveying shop to a regional player offering five primary services to the Energy, Public Works, and Land Development markets. Although we look a lot different now than in the early days, our core values remain unchanged: honesty, dedication, and relationship with a commitment to lead by doing right. Scroll through the timeline to the right for a brief look at our story.

MacKay Sposito was born in 1974 when Don MacKay and Richard Sposito purchased the Vancouver, WA branch of MacKay & Somps. We focused on land development work, including the early stages of the Cascade Park master planned development that eventually reshaped the Vancouver area. Our primary service areas were civil engineering, land surveying, and planning.

The recession of the early 1980's took its toll, but MacKay Sposito weathered the storm. We designed increasing amounts of public infrastructure as our presence in the Public Works market grew. Richard Sposito became our company's second President when Don MacKay retired.

MacKay Sposito experienced growth in Land Development and Public Works. Major projects that began during the 90's include the Fisher's Landing master planned development in east Vancouver and Columbia Tech Center, one of Vancouver's largest employment centers.

MacKay Sposito rode the wave of the construction boom. We opened our first branch office, located in Kennewick, WA. Al Schauer became MacKay Sposito's third President when Richard Sposito retired. Our construction management service area took root, and in 2006 we added landscape architecture. The Great Recession hit, but we survived and thrived by being adaptable and finding new ways to utilize our skills within the Energy market.

Tim Schauer became MacKay Sposito's fourth President when Al Schauer retired. We opened a branch office in Federal Way, WA and began working on Tehaleh, a 4,300-acre community in Pierce County. MacKay Sposito rebranded in order to better reflect the company we have become. In 2019, Derrick Smith became our fifth President, and we added environmental services.

Today, MacKay Sposito is a thriving professional services consulting firm serving the Energy, Public Works, and Land Development markets. Our project footprint has expanded beyond Washington and Oregon to include Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and California. Yet despite decades of change, we still hold true to our core values of honesty, dedication, and relationship.

Our technical expertise speaks for itself, but what you will trust most is our personal commitment to you. We’re the friend who believes in you, stands by you, and passionately wants you to succeed.

RELATIONSHIP

People matter more than projects. Helping you succeed. Encouraging your team to excel. Bridging the divide between you and the community, between public and private sector. We never forget that projects are essentially about humans working together to meet human needs.
