MacKay Sposito master planned and provided detailed design, construction documentation, permitting, bidding and construction administration, for a 2.5 acre neighborhood park in the Tehaleh Community in Pierce County, Washington.
The park was designed to allow users to experience the park through a series of spaces offering diverse social and recreational opportunities. The group shelter is at the heart of
the activity. On one side of the shelter is an area dedicated to swings including ADA accessible seats. The opposite side offers imagination and exploration opportunities with a sand and water play area featuring of a system of concrete channels and interactive gates. The theme of this area is rounded out with a Mastodon rib cage climbing sculpture and fossil dig.
The second area provides more challenging play elements including a zip line and ‘cruise line’ swinging element usable by all age groups, including adults. This ensures all ages can play together and engage with friends and family. A third area moves the park user through more passive areas via a loop trail with stunning views of Mt. Rainer, quiet spaces
for contemplation, and access to nature trails. Barrier free access is provided to all park amenities and interconnects the park entrances, restroom and small parking lot that was
provided.
