Cascadia Boulevard is a main road running through the heart of Tehaleh, a beautifully designed master planned community northwest of Mt. Rainier National Park. As the master civil engineer for the project, MacKay Sposito was tasked with designing a 6,200’ extension of Cascadia Boulevard.

The extension is a three-lane arterial section designed to accommodate a potential widening to five lanes in the future. It includes a multi-lane roundabout with a landscaped center island, the latest enhancements for pedestrian and cyclist safety and connectivity such as rectangular rapid flashing beacons to be installed when traffic volumes reach an agreed upon threshold, and wide meandering shared-use paths on each side.

The result is a Complete Street corridor that is not only safe for motorized and non-motorized users today, but also has an eye on the future transportation demands for the development. It blends aesthetics and function in a way that sets the tone for the entire development. The project is divided into four segments, with the first two completed and the second two in design.
