Priest Rapids Fish Hatchery Renovation

Project Summary

Client: Grant County Public Utility District
Location: Grant County, WA
Service Provided: Construction Inspection

As a stipulation of their FERC license, Grant County PUD agreed to achieve and maintain no net impact from their hydroelectric project on Chinook, Sockeye, and Coho Salmon as well as steelhead. Renovations made to the existing Priest Rapids hatchery are helping them achieve that goal.

The renovation project was significant. The existing rearing ponds were renovated, and new adult holding and raceway ponds were built. In total, these ponds comprised over 100,000 square feet. A separate pollution abatement pond was also installed. An incubation building was constructed, as were two radon aeration towers.

The mechanical systems included fish crowders, sorters, and instrumentation and control equipment. Approximately 10,500 lineal feet of fused HDPE pipe from 4-inch to 30-inch diameter was installed, along with approximately 1,000 lineal feet of PVC pipe from 24-inch to 36-inch diameter.

MacKay Sposito provided construction inspection throughout the project, ensuring the contractor’s work met the plans and specifications and providing Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
